Troubleshooting Methodology

Troubleshooting Methodology - the standard 6-step process for diagnosing and resolving problems:

  1. Identify problem - gather info from user, identifying changes made to system, perform backups when changes need to be made to system
  2. Establish theory of probable cause - questioning the obvious
  3. Test theory to determine the cause
  4. Establish plan of action to resolve problem and implement solution
  5. Verify full system functionality and implement preventative measures
  6. Document findings, actions and outcomes
